Copper tends to tarnish if left out to open air. I always store my copper jewelry in a plastic bag if I don't want it to tarnish. Tarnishing is caused due to exposure to air. This can cause the copper to turn green or dark brown - certainly very attractive if that is how you want your copper to look. But if you don't, the oxidation (tarnishing) will be greatly slowed down if your copper jewelry is stored in a well-sealing plastic bag. You can also place a silicone packet that comes in other everyday products that we routinely purchase in your plastic bag. This packet absorbs moisture in the air which also reduces oxidation.
Personally, I love how the copper changes with oxidation but if you don't, you now know how to preserve your metal.
